I am not sure where my cruise ship will arrive, where can I find this information?

Is there any public transportation available at the cruise port?
Yes, both the Felison Terminal and Felison Cruise Terminal can easily be reached by public transport. For more information see
Is there a railway station in IJmuiden?
No, not anymore. The only form of public transport is the public busses that run regularly throughout the region. Keep in mind that you can’t pay in cash on busses in The Netherlands!
Is there a boat or ferry service to Amsterdam?
No, there is no such connection between IJmuiden and Amsterdam. There used to be one under the name “Fast Flying Ferries”, but this fast connection was discontinued on January 1, 2014. Some organizations and shipping companies still mention this connection, but this is based on outdated information.
Can I park my car at the terminal during my cruise?
Yes, there is a large (gated and secured) parking lot on the premises of the Felison Cruise Terminal. The rate is 15 Euros per car, per day. It’s recommended to make a reservation in advance.
Are there taxis always available at the cruise terminal?
There is a significant taxi stand located in front of the Felison Cruise Terminal. On days when cruise ships arrive, there are typically numerous taxis available. However, the demand may exceed the supply, leading to potential waiting times. It’s important to note that the taxi stand is public and, as such, is not regulated or controlled by the cruise terminal.
Is it expensive to go with a taxi to Amsterdam?
Taxis are generally quite expensive in the Netherlands. A one-way trip from one of IJmuiden’s cruise terminals to the center of Amsterdam can easily cost around 100 Euros. Therefore, it can be a wise idea to share the ride with others. Regular taxis accommodate a maximum of 4 people, while minibuses can accommodate 6 or 8 people. It’s important to note that minibusses typically charge a slightly higher fare than regular taxis.
Is there a (free) shuttle service from the terminals to the city center of IJmuiden?
Some (but certainly not all) cruise lines provide this service either for free or for a small fee. If there’s no shuttle service, you can use public busses or a taxi to reach the town center. If there is a (free) shuttle service, it typically stops at the “HEMA” convenience store in the middle of IJmuiden.
Is it possible to visit one of the cruise ships?
Yes, you can if you’re fortunate enough to receive an invitation for a ship visit from a cruise line, tour operator, or perhaps even from the Captain. In all other cases, it’s a straightforward “no, you can’t”.
Where can I get a map of Amsterdam, Haarlem, or IJmuiden?
